LowIO32 HeapDesk

ESP32 · ESP-IDF · over the network

Your bench, on every board.

LowIO32 HeapDesk streams heap, CPU and per-task stack headroom from the boards you are developing — once a second — and keeps the history. When firmware crashes, the core dump is on your screen before you've found the USB cable.

Everything you'd do with a serial monitor — without the cable

1-second telemetry

Free and largest-block heap for internal RAM and PSRAM, minimum-ever free, CPU load and a fragmentation estimate, sampled every second and kept for a rolling window — long enough to catch the leak that only shows up overnight.

Stack headroom per task

Every FreeRTOS task's stack high-water mark, priority, core and CPU share in one sortable table. Right-size stacks with evidence instead of guesses.

Crashes that report themselves

The connector finds the core dump on the next boot, uploads it and clears the partition. Upload your ELF and backtraces resolve to function and line.

Live NVS editing

Read a namespace, change a value, delete a key — typed, validated, and logged. Tune thresholds without rebuilding.

Command console

Register your own handlers in firmware and call them from the browser. Results come back as structured JSON.

Alerts while you sleep

Offline, crash, low-heap and reboot rules delivered to Slack, Discord, any signed webhook or email. Each incident alerts once.

CI & team ready

API tokens to upload builds, flash them and pull crash reports from CI. Invite teammates, and keep an audit log of who flashed what.

Files & OTA

Browse SPIFFS, LittleFS or SD card, pull or push files, and flash a new image over the air with SHA-256 verification and live progress.

Connected in three steps

  1. Add the component. Drop heapdesk_connector into your ESP-IDF project — it uses the stock MQTT and HTTP clients and works over any netif: Wi-Fi, Ethernet or cellular.
  2. Paste your credentials. Create a device in LowIO32 HeapDesk and copy the generated sdkconfig.defaults snippet. One call to heapdesk_start() after your network is up.
  3. Watch it run. Telemetry appears within a second of boot. Leave LowIO32 HeapDesk next to your usual fleet tooling — it is built for the bench, not for a million devices.

Questions engineers ask

Does this replace our fleet / device-management platform?

No. Fleet platforms sample sparsely to scale to thousands of units. LowIO32 HeapDesk samples densely for the handful of boards on your desk or in your test rig. Run both side by side.

Do I need to upload source code?

Never. Telemetry, NVS, commands and files work with nothing uploaded. OTA needs the application .bin; symbolized backtraces need the matching ELF. Both can be deleted at any time.

Which chips and frameworks are supported?

ESP32-family chips on ESP-IDF 5.x (ESP32, -S2, -S3, -C3, -C6, -H2). Arduino works when used as an ESP-IDF component.

What does the connector cost in RAM and CPU?

About 6–8 KiB of stack for the reporter task plus the MQTT client you probably already run. Sampling once a second costs well under 1% CPU.

What is this host?

A free trial instance. Sign up with any address you control as your login — nothing is billed. The number of trial workspaces is limited, so sign-up closes when they are taken.
